Baton Runner vs Wealthbox
Wealthbox is a financial-advisor CRM built around contacts, tasks, opportunities, email, and repeatable workflows. Baton Runner focuses on a smaller decision: how an inquiry moves from a website form through permitted follow-up to an advisor who owns the next conversation. This comparison is published by Baton Runner, so use the linked Wealthbox materials and a live demonstration when making a purchase decision.

Start with the job that needs work
Wealthbox describes workflows for prospecting, onboarding, and recurring reviews. Its workflow steps become dated, assigned tasks, alongside contact records, opportunities, email synchronization, and integrations. Those capabilities may be the better answer when the firm needs one CRM to organize client relationships, household work, and internal processes.
Baton Runner is intended for a website inquiry that needs an explicit follow-up journey. A funnel can define email, SMS, wait, and handoff steps. The handoff gives an advisor a call task and pauses the sequence while the conversation is handled. The comparison is not whether a task workflow counts as automation. It is whether the team needs its main system to organize work, a dedicated process for inquiry follow-up, or both.
Run one form submission through each option
Bring a real but non-sensitive example: a person requests a retirement guide, gives permission for one or both channels, then needs a human conversation. Ask each vendor to show where the submission lands, who owns the next action, and what a colleague sees before calling. A workflow diagram is useful, but it does not show the operating details that prevent an inquiry from becoming an unowned task.
Test changed contact details, an unavailable owner, a reply, an opt-out, and a failed delivery. These are normal parts of follow-up, and the answers may depend on the workflow, seats, integrations, sender setup, and policies your firm configures. Do not infer a missing capability from a short comparison page.
- Can the assigned person find the request and prior messages quickly?
- What event stops, holds, or continues later outreach?
- Which system is authoritative for the contact and next task?
- How does the team retrieve the exact historical communication?
Compare communication records separately
Baton Runner is designed to keep an append-only communication history and provider outcomes for each workspace. A firm may also choose managed archiving with protected copies, a compliance-inbox copy, integrity checks, and retained-record exports. Retention, archive controls, and any firm obligations must be confirmed for the configuration a firm will use; a product record alone does not establish a legal outcome.
Ask to retrieve a successful message, a failed delivery, and an opt-out from the configuration under consideration. Confirm what the record contains: rendered content, sender, destination, permission evidence, outcomes, access roles, retention, and export options. A contact timeline, message history, and protected retained copy can each be useful, but they are not interchangeable proof of the same control.
When Wealthbox may fit better
Wealthbox deserves serious consideration when a firm wants its principal system for advisor relationships, opportunities, internal service workflows, inbox activity, and related integrations. Existing data, trained users, and an established practice process matter more than a generic feature checklist.
Consider Baton Runner when the unresolved job is a defined form-to-follow-up-to-advisor sequence and the team wants to examine that journey and its records directly. Confirm the intended website connection, sender and consent setup, handoff ownership, and record configuration in a demo before relying on any workflow.
